Sixth Stop – Tours, Events and Job Shadowing

Exploration Events

Exploration Events

Participating in career exploration events or job shadows can help you experience a workplace setting first-hand. These help you learn a great deal more about a career than you can through online research. Ask adults in your family, school, or community resources to help you connect with people in the career(s) you’re interested in.

Subject: Request for Job Shadow Opportunity

Dear [Employer’s/Coordinator’s Name],

My name is [Student Name], and I am a [grade level, e.g., sophomore] at [School Name]. I am very interested
in learning more about careers in [career field, e.g., graphic design, healthcare, welding], and I am hoping to
gain firsthand experience through a job shadow opportunity.

Would it be possible to arrange a time for me to shadow someone at your workplace? I would like to learn
more about the daily responsibilities, skills, and experiences that are important in this career. I am flexible
with scheduling and happy to work around what is most convenient for you.

Thank you very much for considering my request. I appreciate your time and look forward to the possibility
of learning from your team.

Sincerely,
[Student Name]
